About 20 Americans and Ukrainians cycle between 30 to 60 miles a day between host churches. Ukraine 's geography is similar to the Midwest , which ranges from flat to rolling hills. Several vehicles provide support along the way. Outstanding vegetarian food awaits participants at each stop. Host churches provide overnight accomodations.
This summer it will be the 8th bicycle tour.

"We keep coming back to do this ride because the hospitality is great, the food outstanding and the people are so interesting. It's a perfect country to explore by bicycle." - Tim and Renee Massengill, Texas

  • This ride is part of the Ukraine Bicycle Project of the Niles , Michigan Westside Seventh-day Adventist church and the Ukrainian Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
  • It's primary purpose it to provide bicycles for pastors that live on a salary of less than $100 a month. They are typically responsible for 3 churches in a 30 to 50 kilometer radius. Those in need of pastoral care most often require a personal visit because few have telephones. Of course there is public transportation but it doesn't go everywhere or at any time.
  • A bicycle is a great tool for a pastor because it is 3 to 4 times faster than walking and promotes personal health and a clean environment at the same time.

"I am now able to visit members and spread the gospel in places I could never reach before I got the bicycle" - Alex Topal, SDA Pastor in Sverdlovsk.

The $1000 tour cost (+airfare) primarily goes to the host churches to fund their various chosen ministries while the remainder supports the bicycle project itself.
